Lx Camera Viewer 1.04 - Installation Instructions

To install the Video Capture driver on the desktop PC
  1. Open Control Panel, choose Add Hardware, and then choose Next.
  2. Choose Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then choose Next.
  3. From the Installed hardware list, select Add a new hardware device, and then choose Next.
  4. Choose Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), and then choose Next.
  5. From the Common hardware types list, select Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, and then choose Next.
  6. Click Have Disk.
  7. Click Browse and locate the simcap.inf file.
  8. In the dialog box listing the simcap.inf file, click Open. Click OK to continue.
  9. Click SimCap, Simulated Video Capture and then click Next.
  10. Choose Next, and then choose Finish.
To start the video transmission
  1. Establish an ActiveSync connection with the Pocket PC.
  2. Start the video driver within the application on the desktop PC. In MSN Messenger, for example, go to the video setup and select the LxCamView webcam.
  3. Copy LxCam.exe onto Pocket PC.
  4. Switch off all additional network adapters in the Pocket PC, such as WLAN, Bluetooth, and GPRS.
  5. Start LxCam.exe on Pocket PC. The first time it attempts to detect the IP address of desktop computer automatically.
  6. If you want to transmit over WLAN, go to the Tools - Settings menu and change the IP address to the IP address of the WLAN adapter of desktop PC.

In case of a network error it takes much time (up to ~30 sec.) until it recognizes, that the PC is not reachable (depends on network). Finally it appears an error message, then the menu bar is visible. If you want to transmit over ActiveSync and LxCam cannot detect the IP address automatically, try this address: 192.168.55.100.

Possible values for the Rotation parameter (in the trial version only as registry key on Pocket PC, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Zone1\LxCam\Rotation, DWORD type):

  0 - (default) landscape format. MSN Messenger accepts only landscape format.
  90 - portrait
  180 - landscape
  270 - portrait

Portrait format can be used only with the old LxCamView1.02.exe.


If there are problems with a second webcam in MSN Messenger

If you have selected the LxCamView webcam and it is impossible to switch to another webcam, close MSN Messenger completely (choose Exit in the menu of the MSN Messenger icon in the system tray). Then go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager. Under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, select SimCap. Choose Deactivate, and the LxCamView webcam will not appear any longer in MSN Messenger.
